Background:
Merlin my mouse terrorising cat went missing sometime back. A helpful soul suggested that I should borrow a cat trap from the RSPCA to capture him, as despite being the local rodent basher he was actually a rather timid character.

He had been spotted in an area out of his familiar territory, so I went along with my jumbo-sized cat catcher. I bated the trap and returned the next morning.

I was very excited to find that the trap was closed, however upon a closer inspection I realised that I had actually caught a much spikier creature who was obviously partial to a little go-cat tipple.

The poor hedgehog looked in a rather sorry state, full of nasty parasitic lodgers, so I took my new found prickly friend home and gave her a full makeover. She seemed very grateful for this and agreed to pose for me.

Harriet the Hedgehog as she insisted on being called was a good model, if not a little fidgety, however she managed to sit still just long enough between meals to have her portrait sculpted.

She was a very inquisitive and rather nosey little hedgehog, when she wasn't sleeping, which she seemed to do rather lot of the time, possibly because I was keeping her awake though the day when, being as a creature of nocturnal habits she should have been fast a sleep.

Poor thing, however she always seemed to have the energy to explore her every corner, nook and cranny of her new environment. She was also very interested in watching how her portrait was coming to life; if she could have spoken I'm sure that she would have corrected me several times.

When Harriet was happy with her portrait she ate her last pouch of Go-cat and returned back to the place where she was found, where she was gently placed onto the wet grass. She seemed to pause for a second or two, maybe she was realising how much lighter she felt without her nasty little lodgers and then she silently scurried off into the off into the dark velvet night.
